What is the oxygen advantage?
The Oxygen Advantage is a breathing technique and training program developed by Patrick McKeown, a renowned breathing expert, author, and educator. The Oxygen Advantage optimises breathing patterns to improve health, athletic performance, and overall well-being.
The core of the Oxygen Advantage program is the concept of “nasal breathing,” or breathing exclusively through the nose during exercise and everyday life. This method has been scientifically proven to improve oxygen uptake, reduce the risk of injury, increase endurance, and enhance recovery times.
McKeown’s program involves a series of exercises and practices that aim to retrain the body to breathe more efficiently, reduce breathing volume, and increase carbon dioxide tolerance. These techniques include breath holds, controlled breathing, and physical exercises like running and cycling.
